The Gem
In collaboration with Aly Stein
Hotels have a great potential as cultural centres due to a constant flow of people from all around the world. The Gem allows
for a rare coexistence of communal and corporate spaces in a hotel. The design ...aims to cater to the need for functionality and comfort all
while providing spaces that allow for unexpected encounters and interactions between tourists and locals. To achieve this, The Gem’s program needed
to diverge from the program of typical hotels.
Traditionally, a hotel’s ground floor is planned for lounging and commerce. However, the design is
centered around zones of activities: communal gardens, a fitness centre and a sculpture studio. In addition, co-working spaces and rentable offices
on the last three floors of the building promote innovation and the sharing of ideas. The project responds to the current needs of the quartier all
while foreseeing its evolution.
